Spring is (more or less) on its way, the birds are tuning up, the bees are yawning and stretching, and I’ve refurbished my website. Here it is, braced and ready for a year of scribbling.
And talking of birds, the chirpy character perched on the website banner is a nightingale that I sketched – from a book, not from a sitting – some time ago. Long before landing that famous gig in Berkeley Square, the musical little nightingale was considered by the Romantic poets to be an inspiration for creative endeavours: a lyricist to whose heights we may aspire, even if we never come close. So here’s to philomel, and long may he sing.
